Planned Giving

What will your legacy be? Consider a planned gift to impact HMRI’s research programs far into the future. For over 60 years, legacy gifts have provided us with critical funding that supports innovative research to save and extend lives and improve the quality of life.

Do any of these statements apply to you?
  • It is important that the medical research of HMRI continues on after my passing.
  • My family is already adequately provided for or I have no immediate family.
  • I’d like to make a larger gift to HMRI and not alter my current lifestyle in any way.
  • I’d like my name to continue to be associated with HMRI after my passing.
  • I’d like some tax advantages or a life income stream in making a legacy gift to HMRI.

If any of these apply, you may wish to consider a bequest, life income gift or, if you are over 70 ½, a charitable IRA distribution.

Legacy giving allows you to pass assets directly to HMRI and provides flexibility for fulfilling wishes after your passing. Almost everyone has the ability to create a planned gift, and for most people it is the largest gift they can make. You can designate your legacy gift for general support of HMRI or to support a specific research area.

Bequests

Bequests are the most common type of legacy gift and are traditionally made through language in a will or living trust or in the beneficiary designation for a retirement plan or life insurance policy. There are many different types of bequests from a specific dollar amount or asset to a percentage of your estate. We will be happy to provide sample bequest language.

In any legal document, it is important that HMRI be clearly identified as Huntington Medical Research Institutes, a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a tax identification number of 95-1757119 and our address: 686 South Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena, California 91105

Life Income Gifts

A life income gift, such as a charitable remainder trust, can be an important way to give you and/or a loved one income for life, provide unique tax benefits and ultimately help HMRI. Please contact us for more information.

Please advise HMRI if you have already named us in a bequest, life income gift or beneficiary designation or wish to name HMRI when you update your estate plan. We encourage you to let us know so that we can acknowledge your thoughtfulness and enroll you as a lifetime member of The Catalyst Circle, our honor society for planned giving supporters.

Charitable IRA Distributions

If you are age 70 ½ or older and have an IRA account, contact us to find out how to make a tax free charitable IRA distribution (up to $100,000 annually) directly to HMRI from your IRA.

We are experienced in assisting our supporters with questions about planned gifts and look forward to talking with you. We strongly suggest that you also seek counsel from professional advisors regarding estate and gift planning.
