General, Colorectal and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Huntington Hospital
Dr. Akopian is a general, colorectal and minimally invasive surgeon. He graduated from Occidental College with a BA in biochemistry and subsequently earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Following residency training at Huntington Hospital, he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at USC in the Division of Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgery. He then went on to receive his MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
During his career he has maintained a private practice at several local community hospitals, where he specializes in minimally invasive techniques such as single incision laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Dr. Akopian has trained under the supervision of Dr. Howard Kaufman, focusing on colorectal cancers and anorectal conditions. He has continued to be involved in resident training and education as evidenced by numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Akopian is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
