Title: Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Composition of Cerebrospinal Fluid Fractions Shows Their Contribution to Cognitive Resilience of a Pre-symptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease Cohort
Date: February 14, 2020
We tested our hypothesis that omega-3 fatty acids can prevent cognitive decline using spinal fluids from healthy study participants compared with participants with high risks of developing Alzheimer’s Disease. Our studies show omega-3 differences between these groups, suggesting that brain omega-3 is associated cognitive performance. We propose that approaches that prevent brain depletion of omega-3 fatty acids may prevent cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s by interfering with the toxicity of amyloid plaques.
