Jesus Chavez, Senior Research Technician

HMRI opened the first clinical magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy laboratories in the western United States and has been one of the premier centers for imaging research over the last three decades. This research has provided critical insight into liver disease, chemical and metabolic changes of neurodegenerative diseases, mechanisms and growth factors of cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.

The Imaging Core is an integral resource for HMRI’s biomedical research. Technical and professional microscopy and imaging platform services are available to internal investigators and affiliated institutions. The Imaging Core’s instrumentation includes the Keyence BZ-X800 fluorescence microscope, a state-of-the-art platform acquired in 2023, providing high-resolution images, time-lapse video, and three-dimensional modeling. Beyond this, the testbed is equipped for bright field and phase contrast imaging, optical sectioning, fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), photo-switching, ablation, and optogenetics.
