Natalie Astraea, Director

The HMRI Central Biorepository is a shared resource providing services, including controlled cold storage and processing of biological materials for research purposes. The HMRI Biorepository is committed to serving internal researchers and collaborators by providing high-quality biomaterials to support basic science, clinical research, and method development through centralized and standardized services for the collection, processing, management, and distribution of samples. The HMRI Biorepository space allows for storage of all types of applicable biospecimen and for any length of time allotted by the protocol or assigned biospecimen consent. The HMRI Central Biorepository Resources comprises the Biobank, Brain bank, and core laboratory services. All facilities are restricted to authorized personnel through electronic key card access and/or secure code (keypad).

The cold storage units are temperature-controlled and managed using a 24/7 monitoring system that is hard-wired to the Director’s personal phone. This enables quick response time in case of emergencies. The Biorepository has implemented quality systems within the infrastructure and LIMS. These controls include a secure, limited-access facility where personnel are trained in all storage, sample accession, and COC procedures.
