SUMMARY: Huntington Medical Research Institutes is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through biomedical research. Our brand-new state of the art laboratory anchors the biomedical corridor on Fair Oaks in Pasadena. Our scientists' research focus on the connection between the brain and heart, developing diagnostic tools to help treat common diseases of these vital organs that affect every family. The Biostatistician is a support position which may be shared across the BAS Data Core as well as specific data projects that have funds outlined for analytic needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- Collaborate with investigators, core directors, and research staff as relevant and as needed, to help identify best methods for data management and analytics to serve a given project
- Provide analytic support throughout all stages of a project life cycle, as assigned
- Conduct power analysis, sample and effect size estimation at study design stage
- Conduct data quality evaluations including analysis of missingness and data quality assurance for analytic models
- Conduct data analysis using models to evaluate primary and secondary hypotheses in preparation for publication. Frameworks may include descriptive, inferential, predictive, causal, longitudinal; common tools include analysis of variance, regression including estimating equations and multi-level models, classification and learning.
- Assist investigators to develop analysis plans that are appropriate for study aims and hypotheses, using the most appropriate as well as innovative, current statistical methods
- Assist informaticians in cleaning and maintaining database and data dictionary, in preparation for analysis
- Prepare statistical analysis reports for executive and investigator review, publications, and conferences, as needed for project assignments or as directed by the supervisor
- Work with investigators to prepare drafts of Methods and Results sections for manuscript publications and conferences, as needed for project assignments
- Develop and maintain readable annotated code for reproducible analysis. Support the development of ancillary analyses, including documentation
- Assist in the maintenance of datasets and databases
- Working with database and statistical software including RedCap, R, and others
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in data analytics with 2-5 years research and/or analytic experience or master’s degree in data analytics or a related field and 1-2 additional years research and/or analytic experience. A post-doctoral fellow, PhD candidate, or equivalent may be considered for an advanced Data Analyst position, with limited independence. H1B sponsorship considered.
