Teaching Assistant
The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support and mentor high school students and help them gain insight into research methods and lab techniques during HMRI's summer program. TA will report directly to the STEM instructor and scientific director of education. They are required to be at HMRI Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4 pm in Pasadena, CA, from June 16 - July 25, 2025.

The Teaching Assistant’s primary purpose will be to help support, serve as mentors, help the high school students gain insight into research methods/lab techniques, and supervise the high school students.
The Teaching Assistant reports directly to the STEM Instructor and the Scientific Director of Education, and interfaceswith other HMRI staff members like the Chief Science Officer.
Summer Weekly Overview
Week 0: June 9th -June 13th – TAs learn the curriculum and lab activities from the Teacher
Week 1: June 16th - June 20th - Research Methods and Instrumentation
Week 2: June 23rd – June 27th - Anatomy (Brain, Heart, Lungs)
Week 3: June 30th – July 3rd (3-day week) - Pathology & Radiology
Week 4: July 7th - July 11th - Genetics
Week 5: July 14th - July 18th – Bioinformatics & Environmental Science
Week 6: July 21st - July 25th - Research Projects and Symposiums
Teaching Assistants are required to be at HMRI Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4 pm in Pasadena, CA, from June 16 - July 25, 2025. Two class sessions, morning session (9 am - 12 pm) and afternoon session (1 pm - 4 pm)

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current undergraduate students enrolled in an academic program or prospective Fall 2025 first-year graduate students (i.e. enrolled/accepted in a post-bacc, MS, or PhD)
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
- Outstanding computer skills. Must be proficient with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good judgment and decision-making capability
- Must be a reliable and conscientious self-starter, with excellent attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, building respect, consensus, and trust across reporting lines
